XPS 15 9575 2-in-1, what charger?

I have a Dell XPS 15 9575 2-in-1 i7-8705Gand I guess I need a180watt charger? Is that true? If so part number?

A 130 W adapter connected directly to the system will work fine.  The dock needs power so you likely do need a 180 W adapter for it.

Most docks from Dell use a barrel connector - not USB-C, but it's dock model dependent.

Needs a 130W USB-C power supply.

New OEM unit

Either there's something wrong with the current adapter, or the system itself.  This model uses a 130W adapter.  Or do you have this plugged in through a docking station?

From the manual

Power adapter

Table 1. Power adapter specifications
Type 130 W USB Type-C
Input voltage 100 VAC–240 VAC
Input frequency

50 Hz–60 Hz

Yes it has a docking station/brick/thunderbolt! When I bought it there was no charger or thunderbolt. I had not even heard about them, it was all new to me. I would like to just have the charger and not carry the thunderbolt unless I need it. Thank you for replying.

@ejn63 I have tried that. I hook up the charger I have with an adapter to a C an first thing it says is too low a charger ( something like that ). Here is Dock WD19TD and charger DA180PM111 ( 180w ).

The adapter is the problem - if you're connecting directly to the notebook, you need a power supply with a USB-C connector.

So the power supply I have won't work with an adapter to usb C? And what about with the thunderbolt?

Sorry for having to train me, Thank you!

The adapter will not allow the system to detect the input power -- you need an OEM Dell USB-C adapter.

The Thunderbolt chip negotiates with the adapter upon connection - only an OEM adapter with the required USB-C input will work properly.  Others may work partially, but at a much lower power level (probably 60W, which is why you're seeing an underpowered adapter warning).

Ok Thank you. One more question, will it work with my thunderbolt Dock WD19TD? Or do I have to use the 180 charger. I wish they didn't make it so you need to carry all this stuff around, that's why they make the computer thin?

The docking station needs a 180W adapter.

I've been trying to follow this thread . . not sure if my problem is exactly the same.   I have a Dell XPS15-9500   with a DELL docking station DELL THUNDERBOLT DOCK  WD22TB4(2)    When I disconnect my laptop from the AC adapter (house current) it will run on battery. But whenever I am ready to reconnect the AC adapter, it won't recognize it and forces me to run down the battery. Once it's depleted I can then charge it up (using same AC adapter) and I can continue to use it just fine until next time I need to go mobile and disconnect from the AC adapter.

I've replaced the internal battery (new DELL battery) and have tested another AC adapter with no change in behavior.

Very frustrating and time consuming as I have to wait for it to fully discharge , then charge it up again, before I can attempt another  direction for troubleshooting.

The only workaround I've foundis to fully powerdown the system, relocate to my new location, plug in the AC adapter and to the wall - and THEN power up so it sees the AC adapter  THen it runs just fine.  But as soon as I disconnect the AC adapter (if it's running or in sleep mode) Boom - it won't see the AC adapter again when I plug it in.
