xps 15 9570 charger light on but not charging and in bios i see ac adapter : not installed

XPS 15 7590

XPS 15 7590

i was on my laptop and suddenly i get battery low and i thought it was charging but it wasn't, i don't know why, luckily my brother has a dell (not an XPS but a 13 inch work laptop) and i used the charger and it works, it's a 65w charger and mine is 130.

when i got to the bios in the battery section and i plugin my own charger it says not installed and when i plugin his it starts charging and it says ac adapter 65w.

i didn't install any new drivers or anything, this happened randomly.

what can i do?

btw i'm not using usb c, i'm using the normal charger

It is not a driver issue.

Usually we must do various test to narrow down whether the issue is with the adapter, the charging jack or the motherboard. In this case, we don't need to do that. The fact that your brother's Dell adapter is recognized and charges confirms that your adapter is the issue.

There is a centre pin in the adapter's plug (the end that connects to your laptop's jack/port). If that centre pin is broken or bent, then that is the cause. If it's bent, you could try gently to straighten it. If it is not bent, then something in your adapter has failed and it will need to be replaced.

Parts-People sells genuine Dell adapters for your laptop. You may also buy direct from Dell

yes, that turned out to be the issue, i was surprised when i got the battery low popup because i'm certain it was charging before, i tried moving it a bit now and it charges, so it must be bent or not in the right position (i'll look closely to see if it's bent and try to fix it) otherwise i'll just get a new adapter tomorrow.

thanks a lot
