Reply to post: "I accidentally disabled mouse and enabled touchpad"

Sorry for replying in this manner. When I use the "Reply" box, I can't get past the captcha, and I get a "Security violation" error. It's old age.

Is there a button on your keyboard that allows you to disable/enable your trackpad?

I've seen other forums mention a button on the top row, but I have no button that is marked as such. I tried every button - with and without holding down the Fn key. No luck.

...try looking into Device Manager and enabling/disabling through there.

In Device Manager, I was not given the option of enabling or disabling anything related to the mouse. Once again, other forums also suggested that method.

In my random poking and prodding, I was able to disable both the mouse AND touchpad simultaneously. A very unfunny situation and probably not bullet-proof coding by MS.

I tried a shutdown using the power button, but that did not remediate.

I was eventually able to restore my normal setup (mouse but no touchpad). My memory is not reliable, but I think I might have done something useful by pressing the arrow keys.

I'm sorry I'm not able to add to the group knowledge.

Thanks

[Once again, I got a "Security Violation" when replying in the original thread.]

Without a mouse or touchpad, I would have needed to have used the phone to contact an agent.

I thought I might as well reboot before phoning.

During the last reboot, using power button, I was presented with a message saying something like: "Swipe down to shut down".

I had no mouse or TP, so I tried Arrow-Down. That worked. On restart, my issue was resolved:  I had mouse but no TP. (which is what I wanted).

Thanks

Have you reached out to Dell support for them to do a remote access session and try to remediate the problem?
