Gpu xps

Hi . I was thinking in buying the new XPS 15 (2023) with GPU RTX 4070. My question is: can I upgrade the GPU in the future? for example: a GPU RTX 4080 or 4090?

Unfortunately, the GPU in the XPS 15 (2023) with the RTX 4070 is not upgradable. This is because the GPU is soldered onto the motherboard, which means it cannot be removed or replaced without damaging the motherboard itself.

Even if you were able to physically remove the RTX 4070 GPU from the motherboard, it's unlikely that you would be able to replace it with a newer model like the RTX 4080 or 4090. This is because the GPU is designed specifically for the XPS 15 (2023) and may not be compatible with newer models or architectures.

So, if you're considering buying an XPS 15 (2023), it's important to choose a configuration that meets your current and future needs. If you think you may need a more powerful GPU down the line, it's best to opt for a configuration with a higher-end GPU to begin with, rather than banking on the possibility of an upgrade in the future.

As the other post noted, no -- you cannot upgrade the internal GPU in any of the XPS models now available.

Beyond that, anything as slim and light as the XPS is either not going to be available with the RTX 4080 or 4090, or will be a performance compromise.  The power required by those GPUs and the heat they generate as a result means that any system that can use them to their full potential will have to be bulky and heavy enough to accommodate a massive heatsink and fans.
