Acronis fails to see NVME ssd when attempting recovery from Acronis backup
Hi all.
Firstly, i'm a basic user so please bear with me.
Ive been using Acronis for years and mainly used it for restore purposes when i do something wrong!
Ive now got my new XPS 15 9510 Laptop with NVME 2tb drive. Using Windows 11 pro. The laptop is set up for your typical home basic user.
When I boot from Bios and select the USB, Acronis recovery loads fine. When I proceed through to recovery, Acronis fails to see the SSD in the laptop. I have had Acronis conduct multiple remote assists including building a custom WINPE with no luck.
They have said I need the Samsung NVME ( .inf ) file drivers for the hard drive. I have disabled Bitlocker during the process of media creation and attempted recovery which made no difference.
Is there a work-around for this problem. Its a slog to reinstall Windows along with the Apps that I have to re-instal as well.
Thanks in Advance. Andy

I don't have Acronis, so not familiar with how it is set up, but does it boot in the UEFI mode so the Bios can see the drive?
If the Acronis folks could not get it to work, the problem may be related to how your SATA controller is set in the Bios. For running a clean PCIe drive, it needs to be set to AHCI. Dell will normally set it to RAID and install SATA drivers during the install. You might try setting it to AHCI to test.
So we can check, what version of Acronis are you using?

That's a bit of a rude comment Tesla. Don't you think I have asked and Acronis and the Tech has also tried. This is why i've tried my laptop suppliers forum!!
If you don't ask you don't find out! And, the great news is Saltgrass was perfectly correct, Thank you.
So for those who have had no luck with their software provider here's how it worked as per SALTGRASS's answer.
1. Create SIMPLE bootable recovery media using Acronis
2. Put bootable media in and reboot Pressing F12 repeatedly (For Dell XPS) (Check you own model of computer)
3. Select Bios settings and then click on STORAGE
4 Click on AHCI. you will be warned about selecting this, ok it and save/apply.
5. Reboot and press F12 repeatedly when you see the Dell logo
6. Select you USB/Bootable media and wait for it to load
7. Select your backup and proceed to restore.
8. IMPORTANT- Don't forget- you need to go back into the BIOS and click back where it was previously set to before your computer reboots again. In my case it was Raid.
**********Please bear in mind, this worked for me perfectly but it's up to you to risk it!***********

@Cat-flap I suggest you Google search 'Acronis fails to see NVMe SSD'. As mentioned by @Saltgrass one issue may be that SATA operation is set to RAID. There is also a YouTube video about building a custiom WinPE bootable USB media that does not require AHCI, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScMZ3IxuW9o
You could also try Macrium Reflect Free Edition for your backups instead of using Acronis.

Hi. Thanks for reading the Post.
Yes Acronis have tried using the MVP WINPE software downloaded from their forum site with no luck.
I will try Saltgrass's suggestion and go into the mysterious depths of the Bios to see if that works.
I assume I have to tell the Bios to go back to Sata settings if the recovery works on re-boot.
I am using the latest version of Acronis. Failing all that I will look into Macrium Reflect free!
I will update this Post once ive tried setting to AHCI and tried recovery

If you want to keep using Acronis, I suggest you post your question in THEIR forums.
I stopped using Acronis years ago. It failed me a couple of times. IIRC, they were having trouble Imaging and/or Restoring from either UEFI machines, SecureBoot Partitions, and/or Windows-10 64bit... something along those lines.
I switched to Macrium-Reflect and it's been smooth-sailing since.

@Cat-flap
I wondered if there is a solution that works if without having physical access to the device. That is my current scenario.
