XPS 8960, why include "HP Smart"?

Like the title says: Why does my brand new factory-fresh XPS 8960 have an HP Smart app?

You have an HP printer or HP AIO connected to your network.  When you add your new XPS 8960 to your "private" network, Windows operating system would manage your printer(s) and installing driver(s) automatically.  HP Smart is printer app for HP printer products and would be installed by Microsoft Windows during the driver installation process, similar as Waves Maxx gotten installed with Realtek Audio driver.

Amazing!

My wife does have an HP printer in her office ... it belongs to her employer. We don't consider it as 'our' printer.

What's interesting is that the HP printer was not connected to the XPS 8960 when I first powered on the computer and let it go through initial setup and OOBE. Windows would have had to go onto my network to 'see' that printer. I guess this is part of Microsoft's new approach: We do everything for you, whether you want us to do it or not. [smile emoji
