XPS 8960, trying to upgrade graphics card for better gaming
XPS 8960
I thought my pc would run some Minecraft when I got it but it's lagging quite a bit and when I add shaders or mods I can't move anything, I also tried playing Palia and it kicked me out the game twice! The only game that I can play good is Sim4. I want to upgrade my graphics card and wanted to know what cards you all would recommend.
I don't mind having to delete a game or two as long as I'm able to run some Minecraft with mods.

@DELL-Chris M Thanks for those specs for @CookieCrumblez's system.
i5-13400 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and onboard Intel Graphics sound pretty minimal for games like Minecraft. So that could explain the lagging, etc. System may need more RAM and an add-in GPU.

I looked up the private XPS 8960 Service Tag =
1. Do you only have onboard Intel Graphics or do you have an add-in video card?
* Onboard
2. If you have an add-in video card, exactly which one?
* N/A
3. Which CPU and how much RAM are in this system?
* i5-13400, one 8GB stick
4. How much unnecessary junk software is running in the background?
* Unknown.
5. How much free space is available on your boot drive?
* Unknown.

@RoHe thank you! I'm very new to this, what stuff would you recommend? I would like to eventually put a few mods on it as well in the future.

4.Maybe 2 other unnecessary things

@CookieCrumblez - You may want to increase RAM to 16 GB (or more), for starters and see if things improve.
Many users around here buy RAM from crucial.com because they guarantee it will work if they recommended it for a specific PC model. Since you have one 8 GB stick of RAM now, you could install another 8 GB stick, which should be compatible with the one you have now.
That 8 GB stick is out of stock at Crucial, but they list some shopping sites that have it available. I'd only buy the exact module Crucial recommends, even if others are less expensive, so you're sure to get one that will work in XPS 8960.
If you want to go higher than 16 GB, you could add three 8 GB modules or, probably better, take out your 8 GB module and install a pair of 16 GB modules of whatever RAM Crucial recommends.
As for an add-in video card, how big is your budget..? A lot depends on which power supply you have. I suspect you have the 460W PSU. So you don't want to get a video card that has a higher "recommended" PSU size than that. You'd have to choose between an AMD or NVidia card, and find one that has the right types and numbers of ports for your monitor(s), eg DP and/or HDMI.
If you search this forum you should find threads about installing an add-in video card in XPS 8960 to get an idea about what will work...
