XPS 8960, hook up to Dell S2722DZ so my camera and microphone will function

I have been using an HDMI cable to interface my XPS 8960 and my S2722DZ monitor but the camera and microphone do not function. I understand USB-C cable doesn't work and have tried USB-C to USB-A cable and it doesn't work either. I also understand that the USB ports on my 8960 aren't for monitor connection. My S2722DZ monitor has a DisplayPort and my XPS 8960 has a Dual-Mode DisplayPort 1.4. Will interfacing these two ports allow my video camera and microphone to function? I bought the XPS 8960 and S2722DZ at the same time and ended up having to buy a HDMI cable because there was no cable provided. Why didn't someone make mention of this issue when I bought these items? In any case, please provide me with instructions on getting the video camera and microphone up and working. Thx

Did you read the user's setup guide for this monitor to set up the speakers, webcam and mic?  Page 63-65 explain how to connect the cables and enable these devices.

If you have an add-in video card in PC (AMD or NVidia), connect either its DP or HDMI port to monitor. Connect only one of the video card's ports to its corresponding port on monitor, eg, HDMI(video card)>HDMI(monitor) or DP(video card)>DP(monitor). If you only have onboard Intel Graphics, connect DP(PC)>DP(monitor).

Now install the monitor's driver on your PC and reboot.

Speakers: If you want to use the speakers inside the monitor: Open the Windows Sound screen and select the Output device from the list. You'll have to change the setting from (default) Speakers/Headphones (Realtek) to something like HDMI or DP,  or possibly S2722DZ, depending on how you connected monitor to PC.

Webcam: you need to connect the USB-C(PC) to USB-C(monitor) cable, in addition to the video (HDMI or DP) cable. Now enable the webcam on the monitor's own On-Screen Display (OSD).

Then follow steps in the user's guide to enable the webcam on Win 11 Camera Privacy screen. Be sure to give your apps permission to use the webcam on that same screen.

Mic: Unmute the mic on monitor's OSD.  Then go to the Win 11 Sound settings screen again and select the correct Input device from the drop-down list.

Re:  ....ended up having to buy a HDMI cable because there was no cable provided. Why didn't someone make mention of this issue when I bought these items?

This is the information I found on the sale page.  They should have helped to answer most your questions.

Connectivity Options:

Ports & Slots:  1. Security-lock slot | 2. Power connector | 3. HDMI 1.4 | 4. DP 1.2 | 5. USB-C (65W PD) | 6. Audio-out | 7. SuperSpeed USB 5GBPS (USB 3.2 Gen 1) | 8. Speakers (2) | 9. SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen 1) with BC 1.2 charging

Additional requirements if computer does not support USB-C:

If using an HDMI, or a DP cable to connect your computer to the monitor, an additional USB-A to USB-C cable is required for the webcam/mic to work.

HDMI, DP and USB-A to USB-C cables are all sold separately

Cables Included:  1. Power Cable | 2. USB-C Cable (USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type C™ -DP/PowerDelivery)

@Chino de Oro I have made the changes you suggested. Is there some way I can test to see that the video camera and microphone are functioning properly?

To test your Camera for functioning, go to All apps and select Camera app (the one with the camera icon).  If you get a popup message "We can't find your camera", your setup is not working.  Otherwise, a windows with video display from your Camera is indication of working.  You can test recording and making adjustments to settings for your preference.

Microphone is part of camera, audio should be available during video testing.
