XPS 8950, disable Killer in task manager to fix upload speed

XPS 8950

XPS 8950

I simply went into task manager

Disabled anthing that started out with the name Killer or KILLER

and started using it with my full upload speed

But, I have to do this every time I restart the computer or turn it on

I am looking for a semi permenent way to do this automatically at boot up !

But if necessary for some other reason, I would like to be able to turn them back on if I need them at all ever!

Start>Run>services.msc and click OK.

When services.msc opens, double-click each Killer service (and xTend service, if any are listed) and set its Startup Type to disabled.  Exit services.msc and reboot.

You can re-enable them whenever you want.

Keep in mind that Killer software updates are installed via Windows Update, disguised as Intel updates. (Intel owns Killer.)  So if your internet up and/or download speeds are suddenly slow, check in services.msc to make sure the Killer (and xTend) services are disabled.

I am sincerely glad that your problem has been solved. My XPS 8960 has no issues (so far) with connectivity with the Killer WiFi adapter, nor have I observed slow downloading or uploading, with all four Killer services running. I acknowledge your problem, but Killer itself might not be the root cause.

Killer Network Service is what was dramatically crippling my upload speed. On Ethernet connection, with KNS running I had 0.3 MBPS upload speed, KNS disabled with 22.92 MBPS.

Having the same issue. Tried updating drivers. Failed. Gave up.

Using a USB hub with built-in ethernet I got off of Kickstarter and got back the upload speed from the previous 0.53 to the 23.56.

Why didn't you just disable all the Killer services (and xTend services, if listed) in services.msc, as I posted above?

That's the easy/free solution to the problem and doesn't tie up a USB port...

I am SUPER grateful for this solution. Even my stud of an IT guy could not figure it out. And I did by a new Dell! But, I gave it to my kid and had the same problem on the new one and now they are both fixed! And thanks for making this so easy. Sometimes the instructions are to complex for people like me, but not this time!
