XPS 8950 Air Cooler to Liquid Cooler (Upgrading to i9 12900K)
First and foremost, I've read through the relevant threads on here regarding cooling for the XPS 8950 and I'm not finding a solid answer that fits my situation. Currently have the XPS 8950 with an i7 12700 and the standard air cooler option. I'm upgrading my CPU to an i9 12900K. From everything I've gathered this will require a solid cooling upgrade. I have scoured Dell's website looking for the OEM AIO liquid cooler that fits the 8950 and I can't seem to find it sold as a stand-alone upgrade. So my issue is, if I go with a Corsair H60 or H80, will it work with the mounting plate used by the standard air cooler? Would you go with 3rd party AIO or buy a used Dell OEM AIO? Any input on how I can solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

both the Corsair H60 and Dell AIO would fit. you would just use the existing Dell back plate (M3) for Corsair. no need to remove Dell mobo to install Corsair backplate.
you do not want to use Dell website to order a new AIO. The web is notoriously user unfriendly. Rather chat with Dell sales on line on pricing and stock info of the AIO.
When you say you have the standard Dell air cooler now, that seems to imply the basic pancake. another option is the Dell premium tower cooler.
which way you took, you have to install the Dell VRM heatsink too along with cpu cooler to optimize -k cpu use.

@redxps630 this is incredibly helpful. Just to clarify, the part numbers i would need for the liquid cooler and the VRM heat sink are the last 2 correct (2G44F and X30MK)?

Yes. I found these from 8950 part list.
you can chat w Dell sales for pricing. I am not sure if Dell sells brand new or refurbished AIO part so buyer need to have Dell sales clarify it.
We do know if it is a warranty repair they may use refurbished part for replacement (they consider repair = refurbish)

I have been tempted to swap out my 8950's 12600K for the 12900K and while the price for the CPU is very tempting, I doubt I'd be happy with the 120mm Dell AIO which handles the current CPU perfectly.
I'd venture to say a 360mm AIO cooler would be hard pressed to keep the 12900K cool under max load.
The cost of the CPU+cooling just is not worth it......but I'm still tempted...lol.
