XPS 8950, 270° right angle Sata III cable

Question

I need a 270° right angle Sata III cable for my Dell XPS 8950. You can't put the side cover back on after adding a hard drive to this PC without it. On the XPS 8950, the hard drives are mounted horizontally just under the top cover of the case. So, the Sata cable stick up and they need to have a (reversed direction and return to the other side of the hard drive so that they face to the inside of the PC case. Otherwise, regular right angle sata cables face the side cover of the case and cannot be plugged in. Does Dell sell one because I can't find it? Need help asap.

This cable at Amazon is called a Left Angle as opposed to a Right Angle cable. Not having an 8950 in front of me is it possible to turn the HDD 180 degrees in the caddy if this does not work?

@bsacco1 I am not sure what you mean by 270-degree right angle SATA cable. I think you mean left-angle or right-angle SATA cables. You can find them on Amazon. This video shows the difference between left-angle and right-angle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_Yz1GJCM-k

assuming you plan to install the 2nd 3.5" HDD in the left upper corner of chassis, you need an extra long cable that is about 75 cm long (given the chassis is 37 cm x 43 cm) or 30". Dell has a cable like that. The angle of this cable is correctly oriented.

Yes, I need the opposite angle. That is 270 degrees + 90 degrees = 360 degrees.

If you shop for sata cables most sellers describe these cables as "90 degree" or "right angle" which can become confusing.

If you look at it as the "opposite of 90 degree right angle it becomes 270 degrees.

Semantics, I know. But most people in this industry are left brain so they don't get the logic.

I digress.

Works well in my Dell XPS 8950

The expansion slot for a second SATA HDD in the Dell XPS 8950 is on the far top left of the case. And it requires a left angle SATA cable with a 90 degree angle. The length of this cable was perfect, it ran easily from the lower right side of the case to the top left and you can fit these in the built in cable control within the case. I bought other SATA cables from other brands and none of them had the right reach.

Dell XPS 8950

This is the perfect configuration for the second HDD for a Dell XPS 8950 desktop. It has the correct 90 degree angle, and is long enough to easily secure it out of the way. The only tricky part is pushing the little blue button that allows removing a plastic housing hiding the motherboard end of sata connection. Don't know why Dell doesn't ship this with the machine but they don't and this is the only cable I found that seems to work

Great for Dell XPS 8950

I wanted to add a third drive (already have SSD & Hard drive) to my XPS 8950, I found this cable on Amazon. The cable is the perfect length, and works fine. It has no locks, but it fits snugly, and it's not going anywhere. All in all, a great purchase, but I wish it was available in black.

@bsacco1 I guess it is semantics but I would have said you needed a 180-degree right-angle SATA cable otherwise known as a left-angle SATA cable.

I have never seen Dell or anyone selling a 270 degree right angle SATA cable. If you search this forum, many users have successfully installed additional hard drives to their XPS 8950. The information for caddy, cables also was provided. But no one use a 270 degree cable.

Inquiry for compatible parts or query of support devices would be an issue, shopping for one, not so much and shouldn't be an issue. Unless you reside in some remote area with limited to local electronic markets and no online shopping access, such as mountain side of Tibet. Otherwise, you couldn't find the part might has been because of your ability. I don't think any of the Rockstar or Dell Expert of this community could help you with solution to that type of issue.

The plastic tray you put the hard drive in slides into the Dell computer UPSIDE down compared to other computers, so your standard sata data cable is like this in the picture, you can't slide the cover on with this configuration. We bought a new Dell XPS 8960 with 2 expansion slots. One of the data cables was NG, plugged in fine but would not detect the 2nd extra HD. Here's a pic of what the Dell setup does to a standard sata data cable. I didn't have a right angle cable to demonstrate the problem but this how cable gets oriented. And a big THANK YOU to those who solved this.
