Is it a good idea to replace the CPU of Dell XPS 8940 with AMD Ryzen 9 5900X?

it is impossible because the 8940 motherboard is intel and uses Intel socket and chipset, which are totally incompatible with AMD Ryzen.

i9-10900k or i9-11900k. Not all 8940 motherboard supports 11900k. You need the later version motherboard to run 11900k.

to run either -k cpu you would also need Dell heatsink for VRM in proximity to cpu.

and if you have basic Dell cpu heatsink you need to upgrade to premium tower cooler or liquid cooler

@InfinitySwordofDiamond The XPS 8940 only supports 10th and 11th Gen Intel processors so no the i5-13600K is not compatible with the XPS 8940
