XPS 8940 i9-11900k onboard video issue

Question

So I bought a second hand Dell XPS with an Nvidia 3070 and it seems to work perfectly fine with the card installed. Just to test the on board video I removed the GPU and I’m doing a fresh install of windows which works fine up until I go to Dell’s website and start installing drivers. The screen has now gone black and won’t come back no matter what.

Originally it had generic video card drivers installed and it was working but when I go to update to the proper Intel drivers the screen goes blank.

try not to manually DL dell video drivers.  wipe your ssd and do a second clean install of Windows.  initially it installs basic driver.  just let it sit with internet access for some time like up to 30 min, Windows should then automatically DL the best compatible driver for onboard video.
