XPS 8930, GTX 1050 Ti to a GTX 1070
XPS 8930
I just received a GTX 1070 to replace my GTX 1050ti. After installing the 1070, 8-pin definitely connected and hdmi connected, I got no signal to my monitor, nor power to my mouse. Keyboard, fans, GPU fans were all on but nobody was home. Please help, just want better gaming :(

take out 1070 gpu, verify the pc can still POST using onboard HDMI video without any gpu installed. if no power to mouse keyboard cpu fan, you need to do a BIST of psu first. if psu passes BIST, replace cmos battery w a new one then clear cmos by mobo jumper

@redxps630 so pc still posts with onboard, loads up. Keyboard works, mouse works. Install GPU, no signal to mouse or monitor, keyboard works.

@redxps630 are the cmos batteries pretty standard ? I’m seeing the CR2025 and CR2032.

Are you able to get video from onboard hdmi when old gtx 1050ti is installed?
if yes,
Uninstall 1050 ti and install 1070, do you still get video via on board hdmi? If not, pc is stuck during post. need to clear cmos via mobo jumper. https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/xps-8930-desktop/xps-8930-service-manual/procedure?guid=guid-2a199221-cdfc-4dfe-b196-da786913bc78&lang=en-us

@redxps630 yes I get video w/ onboard hdmi with 1050ti installed. I did remove cmos battery yesterday but that didn’t work. I do not get display when 1070 is installed and hdmi plugged into onboard.

Try clear cmos. also try DP video port of 1070 if your monitor supports DP too.

@redxps630 monitor doesn’t have DP. Just moved the cmos pswrd jumper to cmos jumper and back. Still nothing. I will mention however, once I unplugged my power cord, I pressed the power button a few times just in case of that static charge or whatever, and then cleared CMOS. I plugged her back in and it definitely had that static pop, and immediately started a boot loop, still no display, nor power to mouse and keyboard at this point. I’m starting to wonder, Is my PSU shot ????

@redxps630 I have a new PSU coming tmrw since my 460w isn’t recommended for the GTX 1070 to begin with, but they say it can still run w/ a 460w so that’s why I gave it a try, but I’m not getting the results.

If psu passed BIST and you got video with 1050Ti, seems the culprit is 1070 does not let PC pass POST. not even a Dell logo screen. if possible test 1070 in another working desktop.
another test you can try is find a simple video card to install in bottom PCIex4 slot. test pc can send video via this card. then install 1070 in x 16 slot again while leave video cable connected to simple card in x 4 slot. if all of a sudden no more video from simple video card in the presence of 1070 in the system, another evidence that 1070 is no good.
ppl said try secure boot on or off. you may try it too but not promising to be magic trick.

@redxps630 man that’d be a bummer if it’s the GPU, I have 2 now, I was already afraid of that yesterday and had a replacement sent. I’ve heard the secure boot method, and the legacy boot method. I may give it a shot.
