XPS 8920, graphics card upgrade
XPS 8920
Currently has original Radeon 480 card. Need to know if i can handle upgrade to AMD Radeon RX 6600 (already purchased). Will I have to upgrade power supply, motherboard, processor... etc.?

stock psu is okay to handle RX6600 in 8920
basic psu calculator
Load Wattage:256 W
Recommended PSU Wattage:306 W
8920 stock psu is 460w or 850w
no need to upgrade cpu or motherboard
they are all compatible

Have you already cleared CMOs by using the jumper and replaced CMOs battery?
If PC is still stuck on Dell logo screen it means it stalls at the firmware check stage . It is unsure about the detected new RX card and could not proceed, so it would not respond to F2, as if its whole mind is still focused on the firmware test and is absentminded about any keyboard stroke. To enter BIOS to change secure boot to either on or off, you need to remove RX first. After save changes in bios, reinstall RX and try again.

@redxps630 Would it be asking too much to get a quick walkthrough on installing the new one? I tried once already but couldn't get it going. Well, at one point I had the new card in but when I tried to boot up, it seemed to not want to load past the Dell splash screen for about 5 or 10 min. Didn't freeze, just seemed to be stuck.

it is a common issue with AMD RX cards in Dell XPS.
with the 8920 try first replace cmos battery w a new one
then clear 8920 cmos settings by motherboard jumper

try boot again with BIOS secure boot turned either ON or OFF
every time you change settings in bios, save changes before try boot

@redxps630 Installed new graphics card and rebooted. Tried to enter bios with F2 but will not go to the bios on either the new card or factory one.

@redxps630 SUCCESS!!!
Good call on replacing the CMOs battery. I also vacuumed out the dust build-up which I'm sure was also part of the issue. Once it finally booted up with the new card installed I installed all the drivers from AMD and it worked the rest out on its own. Thanks for the help!

@redxps630 Ok, I'm back 😮💨
Everything was working great since my report of success....until I had to go and mess with the boot options because I'm an idiot. Now, when I try to power on, at first it just stopped at the dell logo, but as I kept trying different things to fix it, it just got worse. Power on now, I don't even get the dell screen. Should I just give up and retire from being a nerd? I used to be good at this stuff... 😕

since you have already replaced cmos battery w a new one, try clear cmos settings by using motherboard jumper. for this test you can simplify the system by uninstalling video card and ssd. just try to get back the Dell logo screen on the integrated video port. when you are successful, reinstall the video card and try to get Dell logo from the video card port too. after that do a clean install of Windows on your ssd. hopefully that would reset all the changes you made before.

Dell XPS 8920: What graphics card can I use with its original power supply? I was thinking of a GTX 1070 or 1080.
