XPS 8700, upgrade option for WiFi card from DW1704

Question

For XPS 8700 to upgrade its wifi card (DW1704), one old post (‎XPS 8700, upgrade from DW1704? | DELL Technologies) suggested Dell 8TF1D and Dell NMTXR. It becomes difficult to find them at the market

Just want to know if 0Y74H6 is one option for the upgrade (see the attached photo)? If yes, is it better than 8TF1D?

While 0Y74H6 is an option, it is not a good upgrade as its speed is wireless N. It's a lot slower than 8TF1D, which is AC protocol.

For onboard cheaper wireless upgrade, use Intel AC 7260, half mini card. For example from this shopping site.

For PCIe slot wireless upgrade with external antenna, you can get more faster wifi 6 upgrade. But it will require USB power connection for bluetooth to work.

Chino gave a great answer. These older model use mini pcie WiFi card on board socket for a larger diameter built in antenna socket , neither c/w newer M.2 wireless card and antenna socket standard.
A quick easy option in these model is to use a modern usb wireless dongle plug n play 12-15 usd on Amazon.

Yes, 0Y74H6 will work as an upgrade for the XPS 8700. It’s an Intel 7260 half mini PCIe card, and it fits the same slot type as the DW1704.

That said, it’s not really better than 8TF1D. The Intel 7260 is an older card, so performance is decent, but not the best option if you’re trying to get the fastest speeds.

If you can’t find 8TF1D anymore, then 0Y74H6 is still a good upgrade from the DW1704 and should give you a more stable connection. Just make sure your PC has two antenna wires hooked up to the card, otherwise you won’t get full performance.

XPS8700 is installed with Dell 8TF1D Wi-Fi card to upgrade its wifi connectivity. After installed in the mainboard, device manager (Network Adapter) shows it correctly in Win10. Do I still need to find and update its specific driver?

Now the internet gets disconnected once or twice every hour, what is the possible reason? When it is disconnected, it can resume within one or two minutes automatically. If I want to get a faster reconnection, I run the troubleshooting function, and it shortens the reconnection time. Is it possible due to the wifi card or the driver compatibility? I have other laptop and ipad in my room which do not have the disconnection issue at all.

You may also want to check the antenna leads for proper connection.

@redxps630​  Thanks for your explanation. I used cable to connect desktop and router, and reinstall Win10 with recent updates. The issue is still here.  Is it possible that it is due to motherboard or windows security software? Not sure how to proceed to check?
