XPS 8700, 32 GB RAM upgrade
Hello, everyone.
I had Dell XPS 8700 for many years. Now I want to upgrade ram, the original ram is 12 GB (2+2+4+4, Samsung 2GB PC3-12800U-11-11-A1 1600MHZ, Non-ECC DDR3 memory, 1.5V). I want to upgrade to max 32 GB (2X16 GB), but not sure it will work?
Dell XPS 8700 - Specifications, it looks like one slot for max memory is 8 GB.

newegg has one 32 GB kit (2X16 GB), and it is ECC DDR3 memory, 1.35V, will it work on my desktop?
Crucial 32GB (2 x 16GB) ECC Registered DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Server Memory Model CT2K16G3ERSLD4160B
Any suggestion will be thankful.

The specs call for 4 x 8GB RAM modules for a total of 32GB. The 16GB modules will probably not work. And Crucial has the same information here showing 4 x 8GB as the path to 32GB of RAM.

ECC memory (any capacity) is not supported by desktop PC. They are usually much cheaper than desktop only memory because of the limitation. They are basically useless for desktop PC.
ECC memory is used in server only.
XPS 8700 (a desktop PC) can only use non-ECC desktop only DDR3 memory, which are unbuffered and unregistered.

Thanks for explanation.
I was wondering one 16GB memory might not working on the single slot, the solution might be 4X8GB to reach max.
