Upgrade to Windows 11 on Inspiron 7373 2-in-1 leads to BSOD
Hello Everyone,
I tried installing Windows 11 on Inspiron 7373 2-in-1 but the update is stopped by Black Screen of Death when the update progressed somewhere around 75%.
The error is "ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY"
I looked up to fix the issue. The issue I was told are like not-upto-date drivers, memory problem, old bios version, etc.
I have resolved the above issues but still I'm getting the same error.
I have tried upgrading to windows 11 more than 5 times resolving each and every issues but still I get the same error.
Anything I'm missing here?
Please help me in fixing this issue.

The August 2017 released Inspiron 7373 2-in-1 is not on the validated/tested Windows 11 systems list. A list of systems that have been validated/tested by Dell can be found here =
Dell computers tested for upgrade to Windows 11
If a system has not been listed here it can complicate even getting Windows 11 to work with a clean install due to no drivers being offered from Dell.
Per the link attached "This article designates Dell laptops and desktops that have been tested for upgrade to Windows 11. If your device is not listed below, Dell is not testing the device and drivers will not be upgraded for that model."

There should be some code or driver identity with that error. The driver causing the problem needs to be found.

Hey fireberd,
Thank you for response.
There was not much other info from the error screen.
It just says
Your device rain into a problem and need to restart.
We're just collecting some error info and then we'll restart for you
For more information about the issue and possible fixes, visit:
If you call a support person, give them this info:
stop code: ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY
Then it reverted to back Windows 10.
Is there a way I can find the dump to analyze what you have suggested?

Sorry to say, but you are probably going to have to do a clean install of Win 11 instead of upgrade if you want it now. If not wait a month or two and try again. Could be whatever the problem it has been resolved in a later version. I had a similar problem upgrading to Win 10 2004, it would get to 63% and then abort and revert to the previous version. Finally 7 months after 2004 was first offered whatever was the problem in my Win 10 installation was fixed and it upgraded.
One final question, do you have ample space on the drive? If I recall correctly 60GB is needed for Win 11 upgrade. Not enough disc space will cause a failure.

Copy the Memory Dump
C:/windows /Memory.DMP and analyze it to find the root cause/file

Thank you for the tip. Will try the WinDbg tool and core dump. Currently I'm not able to find the dump file. Hoping to find with next upgrade trial.
Thank you

Seems that way but I will try once more; and yeah there's ample free space on the installation drive, not less than 80GB.

Another suggestion let Dell release drivers for the model.
I tried windows 11 myself both Insider the final release.
Not very exited about it.
Boooooooooring
you can use VMWARE and give it a try prior doing your next install

There are at least 4 reports that I saw on the elevenforums with similar (not exactly same error) of installations getting to certain points and aborting. Sounds exactly my problem noted upgrading to Win 10 2004.
Best option is to wait and try after a couple Win 11 updates (one is forthcoming Tuesday Oct 12 which hopefully will fix Killer and Smartbyte networking that Dell uses).
FWIW here is the initial Microsoft Win 11 rollout:
Windows 11 will be a free upgrade from Windows 10 and will be released starting on October 5, 2021. But, just like every major Windows 10 update, Microsoft will roll it out in phases. Its initial release will be rolled out to owners of the following PCs, and, for others, it will be completely rolled out by mid-2022.

Have you tried updating from a Windows 11 iso run from USB boot. ?

I am having the same trouble and my laptop (Inspiron 7506 2 in 1) is on the list of validated. Very frustrating!
