Can I update my Inspiron 560 with Windows 7 to Windows 10?

Can I update my Inspiron 560 with Windows 7 to Windows 10?

It has 6 Gb RAM, 1Tb HD, 2.6 GHz dual core.

However I do not find it in here https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/sln297954/dell-computers-tested-for-windows-10-may-2019-update-and-previous-versions-of-windows-10?lang=en#Inspiron-DT-MAY19U

It seems a pity to throw in the trash.

Windows 10 works fine on this model. You need a windows 10 DVD and to do a clean install.

When it asks for a key say I don't have one.

Choose the same version of windows that the 7 COA has.

Which would be HOME or PRO.

Then install WIN10 Home or Pro

Go online and change the product key to the key on the OEM dell windows 7 COA.

Then activate windows.

Then download windows 7 drivers for audio and video and chipset and everything works.

You cannot UPGRADE if you have VISTA and not windows 7.

Dell does not support Win 10 on this model (no drivers).  Win 10 is not kind to older hardware and is not compatible with some older hardware (newer than the 560).  Drivers can be an issue.

Make a disc image of what you have now (full disc image (backup) of all partitions to a separate hard drive with a program such as the free Macrium Reflect disc program.  Or disconnect the hard drive and use a different hard drive and if you want to give it a shot, try and if it doesn't work or work enough for you then you can restore to the original disc image or reconnect the original hard drive.

Here is the link to download directly from Microsoft using the Media Creation Tool, if Microsoft detects your PC is compatible.

it's old , Intel Core 2 Duo , G43 chips (really dog meat, worth zero now)sorry 2007 is 12 years old.

you said, windows 10 but 32bit is going dead now, support ends soon, 64bit is NOW.

your PC is not 64bit supported, intel dot com  says core (tm) gen 4up,  so yours is  way older processor .

but if trying is fun the post below nails this. why not just try the ask why?

put in a used $5 hdd, or go whole hog a $20 SSD test drive. OMG is this big money?

then windows free for 30 days, not a penny cost to try,  and  the ISO is free, only a 40cent DVD or $5 usb stick

and install the w10, 32bit is hopeless .

see if plug and play makes things work or not, if not , replace the part that is NOT.

wifi replace it.

video , replace with card that works

sound dead, replace it. easy. (all 3 can be new cards, or usb dongles , wifi /sound)

if the install disks tells you it cant go forward , sure. end of the line, as vast PC owners learned.

2013 or newer is best,  64bit, core i3up, and gen 4 up. ok>?   September 2013 up.

year 2010 PCs i3 gen1 , 32bit. see the list , 32bit is DOOMED now and worse soon.(new PCs are no more 32bit)

see the list , no lies just facts and Intel calls the shots, no me not dell just  THEM.

see 32bit death there, believe it.

THEM:

facts from intel read that first. clearly.

560 just sold on ebay for  9 bucks.

intel cut the cord,  so all PCs that old are now dog meat.

w7 goes offline soon, early 2020 so,  there is that. not to mention  over 350 updates to make it work and takes day of hard work to pull off. IE11 step on. load.

IE11 is also dog meat now, no updates for ever.... Edge stinks so FF rules here.

some say best thing for old PCs is Linux and are correct. 100% free too. and pretty good if you just try it for day.

There is something wrong with the Dell website. When I press the Sign In button or try to give kudos,

HTTP Status 401 - Authentication Failed: Error validating SAML message

type Status report

message Authentication Failed: Error validating SAML message

description This request requires HTTP authentication.

I had to go to the home page just to sign in.

Anyway. I don't know why there is such a scare and urban legend that Win 10 cannot be installed on older hardware.

I also have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop and on other forums, they also said it should be thrown into the trash and I was about to do so - only my wife refused to let me.

Then I purchased a legal but discounted OEM Windows 10 key and did a clean install and activated using MS telephone activation line. Everything works fine - audio, graphics etc.

I do agree that some specialized software might not work.

I am trying to run the android emulator, I get an error and it exits.

Emulator: Warning: Quick Boot / Snapshots not supported on this machine. A CPU with EPT + UG features is currently needed. We will address this in a future release.

So unless you are doing stuff like this, I think Windows 10 can run on older hardware - but someone has to prove it. Unfortunately, all the companies profit when we upgrade our hardware and software.

So no one will tell you that you do not need to upgrade.

WINDOWS 10 OEM will take WINDOWS 7 Home or PRO OEM COA keys and not require a new license.

Machines that came with Windows 8 and up have that key in the bios.

Yes, you can update directly from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and it does not require any activation. & second option is you can also download Windows 10 iso directly on your system, and start the installation of Windows 10 directly on your system.
