Can I stop or remove dell instrumentation. It's hogging all my memory

I'm trying to find out if I can switch off Dell Instrumentation and other system running files. They are hogging my memory a lot. My system is no longer eligible for support, but the product is only a few years old and has plenty of life left.

These Dell processes/services all appear to be part of Dell SupportAssist or possibly other Dell-branded utilities. At any rate, I uninstalled SupportAssist and all the Dell services on my system, including Dell Instrumentation, went away. You can certainly live without SupportAssist, though you may want to check the support site occasionally for recommended driver updates.

Hi all,

As per Dell engineers:

"Yes, users can remove Dell Instrumentation. Dell systems support an OS install without added software apps from Dell. In this case it is recommended the user make sure their system has the latest drivers, BIOS, and Intel Processor Power Management Package on applicable systems."

@Nori510 Dell in their infinite wisdom sends you an update automatically.  Periodically go into task manager and see what is running and remove.  Remove this option for Dell in System

@robert678 Remove the option for Dell to even do this.  Remove the option in apps

@JoanRivers They do it because they can.  And if people do not notice what is causing the issue, then they either tend to purchase a new PC or add memory.  In addition, this in a way gives control over to Dell.

What everyone can do is periodically go in and update newer versions of wireless card for example.  (making this up).  You still need to update the parts on your windows PC, but Dell will go in and try again.   :)

Another way is to into services and shut the service down

@Lara Christy Go into apps and remove anything that has to do with Dell as an app.  Bear in mind that every so often you will need to update your drives on Dell.  Nor is that a hard thing to do.  Also, once in a blue moon Dell will go back in and reload the apps.  Just be diligent.

Let me be brutally blunt. As an IT person for a fortune 500 airplane company and working for IT in Government. This has been an issue for many many years. This is not new. The support assist app is not the only issue doing this from a Dell product/app

@JoanRivers Please remove it now and reboot.  I sincerely doubt the new version is up to snuff.  Remove and see how it works.

@Bassoon Lady Remove it.  It is not necessary.  Reboot afterwards
