vWorkspace - is it possible to power on a physical desktop PC?

We use vWorkspace to manage our virtual pc's and it allows users to power up their VM if it has been shutdown.

We are considering using vWorkspace to administer a few physical PC's and hopefully allow users to power up their PC if it has been shutdown.

Is this possible?  At the moment the option to power off and power on just seems to be greyed out.

I have configured my NIC and BIOS settings so that they Wake on Lan and have tested this with a 3rd party application (Spiceworks) so I know it works.

I have read conflicting things online and although I have a support ticket open, replies are quite slow and the engineer seems uncertain as to whether this is possible or not!

Thanks

Hi,

WOL is not the problem - it works.

I am just trying to find out if it is possible to power off/on a physical PC from the vWorkspace console in the same way it is possible to power off/on a virtual PC?

At the moment the option to power off/on is greyed out on the console.

In our network wake on lan packets are not routed, which I think most large networks don't route wake on lan. So wake on lan may not be a suitable protocol. Another technology is Intel AMT which already has .Net web services that could be called to send a power on command. You could make a .Net web application that powers on your computer that your users could use.

Hi Kevin,

I eventually got my case resolved by support.  It seems that Power On/Off of phycialls is not possible in v7.6 and we need v8 or later.
