Vostro 3750 slows down to a crawl after rendering 1080p video stream

The laptop returns to normal after the video. It doesn't seem to occur when I watch under the setting, 720p so I believe the problem is caused by a component overheating. My question is which. I read about adding a copper plate over the PCH diode to reduce its temperature and thus reduce fan speed but will it solve the problem described in the title. I suspect the problem is caused by the deterioration of the thermal bond between the CPUs and the main heat sink and needs renewing, but I need to be sure because of the work involved. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

To completely solve this problem I had to

  • Dismantle my Laptop
  • Clean the dust that was blocking the air outlet through the heatsink
  • Clean and replace the thermal bond between the CPUs and heatsink.

The blockage was deep inside and inaccessible. The repair took me hours but the results made it worthwhile. The fan slows down to a whisper when the laptop is idle. (Don't listen to the advice about placing a makeshift heatsink on some diode. It will only mask the problem and may even cause damage.)

Using HWiNFO64, I discovered that the Cores were around 95 degC and Thermal Throttling was activated during the symptoms described.
