Vostro 15 3590 No display after RAM upgrade
Need help, We have purchased some ram to upgrade some of our customers Vostro 15 3590 laptops. The laptops are identical. We pulled up the service tag for one of the laptops to find the dell compatible parts. The access we have to the laptops is very limited due to them being offsite/ home computers. I was able to get my hands on one of them over the weekend. I opened up the laptop and installed the ram, and powered it on. The caps lock key lights up solid white and nothing happens. I removed the old ram and used just the new ram to see if that would help in some way, but the same thing happened. I put the old ram back in and the system booted fine. Please help.
Thank you,

It looks like the issue was resolved. For some odd reason the laptop will sit on a black screen for about 30 seconds and then it will pop up a message stating that the system ram has changed. We found that out after troubleshooting and getting a phone call and leaving the laptop on and then seeing that it came up after the 30 seconds the BIOS noticed the change. Thanks for the information regardless.

Well inasmuch as the system boots fine with the old RAM then you obviously have a RAM compatibility problem. Not knowing what speed or make RAM you have or whether the system has an optical drive (yes it makes a difference), let me offer this information. With an optical drive it takes a maximum of 16 GB DDR4 2400. Without DDR 4 2666 also 16 GB. The most compatible RAM for that system is Crucial as found here. Crucial also lists 32 GB total as compatible and though 3200 RAM is specified, it will run at the slower speed. You could try a reset. Disconnect the battery and unplug the adapter. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds then reconnect everything and reboot. If that does not help then possibly pulling the CMOS battery for 15 minutes.
One question, is the old RAM 1 module or 2?
