Dell Vostro 3700 - CPU upgrade whats the max I can have
Hi all, checked previous posts and not got a clear answer from them so asking this question.
So I was freebie'd a Dell Vostro 3700 because it had a red screen issue...
a disassembly, a few squirts of contact cleaner and its up and running like new in all its techi-coloured glory, I had 2 x 4GB sodimms in my draw and plonked them in so the memory has been maxxed out, had a spare SSD 480GB so dropped that in and its ticking over nicely... and then I got to thinking what's the CPU limit for these puppies.
Dell support from the Service tag had this info:
| C336X | ASSY,BASE,NBK,3700,FCG25,UK | 1 |
| YMYMT | BASE,NBK,VOS,3700,BTS,FCG25,UK | 1 |
The BIOS appears to be version A04 21/05/2010 and I know there is a Winery A10, I've seen an A12 BIOS but not sure that isn't for a newer version of the vostro 3700 but regardless, I'm just waiting on a new battery as the old one is knackered so I'm hanging back on updating the BIOS until I get a fulled charged battery in-situ
If anyone can help with advice or info that would be great.

What you can upgrade to, depends on the GPU in the system. These shipped with first-generation Core i CPUs, so that's the limit.
If your system has Intel video, you're limited to a dual-core i7. This includes up to the i7-640m.
In this generation, quad-core CPUs have no GPU aboard, so you can't use one unless:
If your system has an nVidia GPU aboard, you can use the first-generation i7 quad (i7-740QM).
All of these CPUs are contemporary with the system, so they date from 2010 -- you'll need to find a used one.
