VNX File DNS TTL for CIFS Server
Hello,
Is anyone using custom DNS TTL for thier VNX File CIFS Servers? Our replication site uses a different IP and I don't like these CIFS servers using the longer DNS TTL that comes from the DNS server by default when it has to re-register.
On a Windows server you can update/add a DWOD of "DefaultRegistrationTTL" to "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters" and it will customize the TTL when the client registers with DNS. We do this with any Windows boxes under VMware SRM, etc and it works well.
I am wondering if this work on a VNX CIFS Server?
Thanks,
Joe

Support was able to get me set up.
It takes a .server_config command for the param of dns.updateTTL. Altering that value will update the DNS TTL when the CIFS server registers with DNS.

Joe,
changing the registry will definitely not work on the VNX since it doesn’t use Microsoft DNS on the data mover.
If you work with EMC support they probably can tell you an undocumented parameter to change dns updateTTL
