Unable to connect to SPA Management IP
Hi,
We are using VNX5100.
We find that we are not able to ping / connect to SPA Management IP. On the other hand, we can login Unisphere via SPB with no problem.
In Unisphere, we find that there is no error for SPA.
We would like to seek your advice - Do we need to restart SPA or is there any way to get the connection back ?
Thanks

Rebooting the SP during business hours should be OK, but of course with a couple of considerations; during the reboot time (10 - 15 mins) there will be no redundancy in host access / array management, also if both SPs are highly utilized, rebooting one of them can impact performance negatively.
As for your main issue, being unable to access Unisphere, as well as being unable to ping the SP, seems to me like a connection problem (as long as you also have no alerts about any SPA component faults).
So:
- Is your ping / Unisphere access problem noticed from only 1 work station / PC? If so, I'd try other options, just for confirmation.
- If the problem is from multiple PCs, you can test if SPB can ping SPA (Unisphere > Settings > Network settings for block > Ping-SPB > use SPB management address to ping SPA).
- Whether or not SPB can ping SPA, I'd assume there might be a problem on SPA's management module for example, we cannot really tell without logs, so in that case I'd just open up a Service Request with support describing the symptoms.

Hi,
have you verified, whether the LAN cable is working fine and the cable is in place

Yes, the cable is OK.
I have restarted the SP and it works again.
However, I just wonder is there any better way than restarting SP ? Is there management server (Like CLARiiON) ?
Thanks again.

yes - on VNX1/VNX2 you can restart the management server via the setup page
I dont think that helps if you cant ping it though

Yes, you are right.
We are not able to connect to SPA management IP again. A restart of Management Server doesn't fix the problem.
BTW, is there any problem if we restart the SPA during office hour ?
Thanks

Yes, you are right.
It is found that due to change of SAN admin password, it causes SPA management IP cannot be accessed via Browser.
Cheers

Depends on the state of your system.
I would suggest to open an SR so that customer service can investigate and recommend a course of action

Hello nematipnr,
What is the current OE that is on your VNX5200? Was the replacement controller from another VNX system or was it from a certified reseller?
