Navi Host Agent + Multiple HBAs/Arrays

Hi, all!

We have 2 dual-port FC HBAs and each one connects to a separate VNX 5300 direct-attached.  Navi host agent registers on Array A just fine, but it doesn't on Array B.  I have the agent.config set with this, but am not having any luck:

User system@arraya-spa-ip

User system@arraya-spb-ip

User system@arrayb-spa-ip

User system@arrayb-spb-ip

The WWNs are logged in to Array B, but not registered.  Everything works fine if I manually register the host on Array B, but I'd prefer that Navi host agent register for me to get the OS, status, and all of that good stuff.

*Note:  The host and all array SPs are on the same VLAN.

I have an open SR, but EMC support has yet to be helpful on this one.  The first support agent said that a host can't be attached to two arrays - lol.  Once you get someone good, their shift ends and the SR goes to limbo and have to keep re-assigning!

Any ideas?  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

Tim

The answer is to remove the DGC LUNZ hardware ID from MPIO's control in Windows and restart the OS.  I had added all of the discovered DGC hardware IDs after presenting LUNs from Array A.

From my understanding, LUNZ is a placeholder LUN that is presented to the host in order for it to see the array, login, register, etc.  There are numerous articles saying to add all DGC device types to MPIO, but DO NOT add LUNZ to MPIO!!

*Note:  This came from my own trial & error vs. EMC support.  They were not helpful on this one.

Hello,

Confirm that agentID.txt is configured correctly - in case if you have it.

Can you please check if there is any Privileged Users configured in Unisphere?

Go to Storage Hardware -> right click on each SP -> Properties -> Agent

Do you have any entries under Privileged Users?

Hi!

I don't have agentID.txt -- I did read about it, but figured it was for multihome networked hosts only or potentially iSCSI HBAs vs. FC.  I tried creating it now for grins and restarted the Navi Host Agent, but no luck.

No privileged users are listed on either array.  I did try adding 'system' on Array B and restarted the Navi Host Agent, but didn't have any luck.

It works just fine on Array A, so all of this confuses me.  The only thing I can come up with is that the service is seeing the first HBA and not working with the other one.  I could potentially try to swap cabling and see if it registers on Array B.

Thanks!

Understood.  I couldn't add it to a storage group, because it wouldn't auto-register.  Therefore, LUNZ (management) was presented, but I couldn't get the Navi Host Agent to register without removing it from MPIO's control.

Thanks

Just quick followup - when you create a Storage Group, the first LUN you add to the Storage Group will get the HLU 0 assignedautomatically unless you specifically select a different HLU number. For a host to not see the LUNZ, you need an HLU 0 in the Storage Group. Without an HLU 0, the array will always present the LUNZ.
