LUN migration question, Migrating traditional LUN Raid 10 to Storage Pool
Hello, I have a traditional RAID 10 LUN that I need to migrate to our Storage Pool which is mixed. Will the newly migrated LUN keep the RAID 10 property/protection even though the Pool is mixed RAID 5/6? After the migration, we plan on removing the disks(300GB) that were used in the original RAID 10 LUN and replace them with new disks (600GB) and migrate back to those disk due to capacity increase requirements. Will LUN migration keep RAID 10 throughout this process? Thanks in advance!

It will not. When you move the LUN to the mixed pool it will take on the mixed RAID properties of that pool. Once you recreate the R10 RAID Group and move the LUN back, it will then take on the RAID 10 characteristics again. There's no software level RAID magic here. A LUN does not define it's own RAID properties but simply inherits those of the pool or RG it is located in. Pretty straightfoward.

No – a LUN in a mixed pool is always of type mixed – it cannot be of type R10

Thanks very much for the reply. When migrating back from a storage pool to a traditional Raid Group, if we set the target as a Raid 10, the LUN will assume the Raid 10 correct?
