Failed Disk without Hot Spare Replicaing
Hello:
Recently we have two fail disk at our VNX 5500. One of them it shows a 'Hot spare disk replacing' state correctly but the other it doesnt appear with their hot spare disk. This failed disk show 'Removed' state.
Can we replace this failed disk apparently without hot spare with minimal impact?
Thank in advanced.

Hello InfraMED,
I am glad that you found out that there was no HS for the bus. It is best practice to have at least 1 HS drive per 30 drives.

Hello InfraMED,
With the drive showing as removed, means that you VNX5500 has spun down the drive and powered it off. You are good to replace the drive. When the new drive is inserted it should power up and be seen correctly.

Hi @DELL-Sam L
Yes, thanks for reply.
About that removed state i was sure that this means good for replacement.
Only I had doubts about the reason because the array cannot allocate none hot spare disk (automatically be selected) it being with same size for instance.
Thanks. Regards.

Hello InfraMED,
It is hard to say without looking at the logs to see what when on. If you had hotspare drives that were the same size and speed as the drive that failed, then it should have taken over for the failed drive.

Hi @DELL-Sam L
Thanks. I'm almost secure that It was been lack of HS disk in that Bus. That Bus there were none.
Maybe that it's reason?
I was checking info from info from vendor It seems that 'it must' exist a HS disk per 30 disks like best practice/recomendation.
We're working with VNX 5500 (VNX1).
Thanks. Regards.
