spares are global - not dedicated to a pool

rule is 1 spare for 30 total drives

for more info see the VNX white paper

correct

depends on your RAID level

Obviously if you only have one spare (or other fitting) unused disk than the system can only rebuild one.

the policy just defines the minimum number of spares - you can have more if you want - in fact there are no Special spares - any unused disk will act as a spare

Please see the VNX McX White paper for more info

thanks a lot

i have raid 5 (4+1)
so if i have 1 disk down the vnxe will use the spare in raid and replace the damage disk .. i will try to find the way to  change the policy to create 2 spare to every 30 disks .... can i do it right ?

If this is a VNX2 you do not need to create a spare

with VNX2 McX there is no spare creation - any unused disk will be used

For VNX1 Systems there is a command to create spares but no policy

For VNXe it could depend on the model - but the Unisphere Online help on your system should tell you
