Upgrading VMware Tools \ Virtual Hardware in FOV 7.0 Build 130927.1406
Hi,
I tried to update the VMware tools version in FOV, but all that seemed to do is strip it out... Any ideas as to how to get it back and to update it, including the virtual hardware version also?
Many thanks.
Alex.

Hi Alex,
The installation of the tools is a functionality of vCenter, and VMware would have a better understanding if there is an issue with the installation. Their support might be able to help resolve the issue you are having.
That being said, I would like to offer some assistance if I can. I have installed VMware tools the same way you have described. In the past, if I had an issue installing them, vCenter would notify me of the reason why. It would also appear as if the tools were "stripped" from the existing VM.
I suspect something similar is happening in your environment.
I cannot be certain this link applies, but we did find this from VMware.

VMware support should be able to assist you further with the installation of the tools. Unfortunately, since it is not our product, I can only offer advice on how to resolve the issue with installing the tools.

Hello Alex,
I would like to help you but I need some clarification on your question.
The build number looks to be a build number similar to Foglight for Virtualization Standard Edition (FVS).
I'm not sure what you mean by FOV, could you help me understand.
VMware tools is required by FVS ( and VMware ) to allow VMware to gather certain statistics on your virtual environment. Installation of the tools is done through vCenter.
Are you having trouble with vCenter installing the tools?

Hi Bill,
Sorry – FOV (Foglight on Virtualization).
Yes I am. I’m running vSphere (ESXi & vCenter) 5.5, updating VM tools via Update Manager in vCenter, but when trying to upgrade it just strips the existing VM tools out and now showing as “Not running – not installed”, and I can’t seem to get any further forward.

The VMware tools are already installed, but when upgrade the process fails .
Note : Vmware tools are depending to the ESXi hypervison ( linux like ) nothing with windows vCenter .
When upgrading the tools the process fails, regarding to an incorrect path to the linux headers, also to the init configuration, And this is local linux misconfiguration .
I have try to add a cdrom, withou sucess, also tried to install tools with monted cdrom , also fails .
