I want to add several Brocade SAN switches to be monitored by ViPR SRM, but cant workout how to setup the SMI-S provider required for the Brocade Solution Pack...

Install CMCNE (Connectrix Manager Converged Network Edition), it will act as SMI-S provider for Brocades.

Documents and software can be found from support.emc.com ("CMCNE" will be good product to search)

CMCNE needs to be deployed on Windows server. See list of supported versions in CMCNE documentation.

(User Guide, available in support.emc.com)

"Agent only" installation is sufficient, no need for CMCNE license and whatnot.

What is SMI-S? What does it stand for and what is it really? Is it an agent for ViPR?

Hey Kofiboadi:

SMI-S stands for Storage Management Initiative Specification, which is basically an industry standard that companies follow in order to connect to objects.

for more information, look at:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storage_Management_Initiative_%E2%80%93_Specification

For VIPR SRM, the Brocade Solution Pack can use CMCNE or BNA for smi providers. The screenshot below shows the available providers per the 4.2 Support matrix

we are using Generic-SNMP solution pack for the monitoring of the Cisco switches? Cant that approach used for the brocade switches?  we use snmp v1 though while configuring switches.

SNMP will be supported anyway on brocade.
