Is sharing a LUN between two clusters possible? If yes, how do we handle the LUN IDs?
We have a plan to replace a cluster environment with a new one. What we have planned to do is create the new cluster ( ESX) and share the existing LUNs until the old hosts are removed. How can we do that? How do we handle the LUN ID issue during two servers perform write at the same time on a LUN?
Thank you

Hello Sam,
With Consistency group you typically add hosts that are not part of a cluster and want to the same luns. I have checked and it may be possible, however you will need to open a support case so that we can gather more information to see if it can be done.

Hello Sam,
Sorry about that as I typed the wrong system. Unity systems it is not possible to share luns between clusters.

Hi Sam, thank you for the reply. My original question was regarding Unity not Isilon. Can you still confirm sharing LUNs between two ESX clusters not possible?
The other solution we thought of was to create a consistency group including both old and new cluster hosts ,and share these LUNs to the consistency group in order the two cluster environment access them. Do you think that works? If yes, can we get a step by step procedure on that?
Thank you for the response. It is very helpful.
Thank you

Sam, what about the Consistency group I mentioned above? Does that work?

Hello Sam,
It is not possible to share a lun between two clusters on an Isilon system. Here is a link to a kb for Dell EMC Unity: How to Move/Migrate Unity Datastore /LUN /Vvol
