Venue Pro 7140 - NFC disabled

I have gotten a replacement motherboard and NFC is not working. By checking with the cctk utility, I see that the NFC option is disabled in the BIOS, but there is no actual switch in the BIOS options on startup. Is there any reason why NFC is disabled by default and is it safe to activate it via the cctk utility? In the case of a fatal non-boot error I would have no option to deactivate this option again.
