DV8P Win 8.1 Keyboard missing

We purchased the DV8P and DV11P to test Windows 8.1 with our infrastructure and hopefully replace the Android Tablets used out in production. I'm highly impressed and excited to report my findings. I'm actually hoping to get one for myself. I am having one very annoying problem and I'm sure it's user error. When connecting to a secure location I'm asked to press the Windows key then the power button to enter in credentials. When the screen appears asking for the information the keyboard does not auto populate nor is there a way that I see to generate the keyboard. Am I missing something or is this an actual issue? Your help is greatly appreciated!!!

Maybe give this a try...a possible workaround.... Desktop\Control panel ('view by large icons' to show all items)\ Ease of Access\Make touch and tablets easier to use (bottom of page...last item) Change what Windows button + Volume Up button function.....from default 'narrator' to 'On Screen Keyboard' Then you might be able to pull up the keyboard at your opportune moment to enter your info. Hope this helps.

I'm also wondering if you'll need to change the default function of the power button.

I attempted this suggestion, and it was a good suggestion.... it just highlighted the field for user name but no keyboard was generated. I think this is a serious problem for those that wish to use the tablet in an enterprise environment.

I take that back. I was doing something wrong. I messed around and was able to use the ease of access on screen keyboard (which is odd because it is different for some reason) and could enter in credentials. I pinned the keyboard to the task bar so whenever someone needs to access a secured share they can open the keyboard before proceeding which in turn will allow them to enter their creds. Thanks for the help!

Glad to read you got things working... --------------------------------- But your comment: ".. I pinned the keyboard to the task bar ..." made me re-think I mis-read your situation. I thought from your first posting that you were unable to access the normal screen options(like the Taskbar or Charms Bar). Either of those offer access to the popup keyboard., in which case the hardware button workaround is unnecessary. ---------------------------- From the Taskbar...right-click/long-tap and choose 'Toolbars'...and check 'Touch Keybioard' -------------------------------- From the Charms Bar (right-side...swipe left)...Settings\Keyboard\'Touch keyboard and handwriting panel' ===================== Note: the keyboard layout initialized by the hardware key workaround I put forth earlier is the 'Standard keyboard' layout as opposed to the 'Touch keyboard ' layout. If you need the additional key options provided by the Standard' layout (albeit at a smaller touch point layout) then it can be added to the Touch keyboard options(Touch keyboard\lower right corner\keyboard icon). To add the Standard keyboard to the option list...go to: Charms Bar\Settings\Change PC settings\PC and devices\Typing.....at bottom of page under 'Touch keyboard options...'Add the standard keyboard option'. Now the standard keyboard option will be available from the Touch keyboard icon options. ------------------------- In any event, glad you got things usable. O/T...for the life of me I can't figure out how to post with paragraph breaks on this forum...my apologies for any readability issues.
