Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet wont start

Hi

The tablet is about a year old only. And I have kept it safe and sound, no damages or drops. Nothing.

But yesterday morning when I was charging it, it went off and no matter what I do, it doesnt start!

I press and hold the start buttong. Nada. I even press the windows button or was desperate enough to press the volume toggles even!!!

I thought perhaps the charge is not enough. So I left it to charge overnight. Still nothing.

It used to have a glitch before that sometimes, it used to take several minutes to actually start (boot). But that was random and many times it was when an update was installed. But not always.

But this time, it stayed off and after more than 24 hours, has not come on!

What do I do?

Thanks

I think I just solved this issue. Make absolutely certain you are using the USB wall wart that came with your Venue Pro, regular phone chargers and the like do not work reliably and sometimes not at all! It will have a windows sticker on the side of it. The Pro must need more power than what is normally fed through normal phone chargers. I hope this helps!

Also, I believe the momentary amber/red light while pushing the power button is actually a dead battery indicator (as crazy as it sounds). These type of batteries are not supposed to be completely drained as it will ruin them pretty fast, so they are designed to shut off the device with some charge left as a protection from being fully discharged.

I have the same issue, less than 2 months old and it won't turn on.

I am also having this same issue. Mine is only a couple months old and has been very well taken care of, never dropped or anything. It was working last night, and then this morning it won't turn on no matter what I do.

I don't usually add "me too" posts, but...  I've had mine less than two months and am having the same issue.  I'd had it happen before, but was able to restart  using the "hold for 10 seconds, release, then hold again" approach.  But this time, I've tried that for the last two days.  (It seems to have been since the latest Windows update, maybe?)

I'd tried to do Google searches to see if there were other solutions, and I'm not sure which is more disturbing - the number of people having issues or the lack of response from Dell.

frustrating - it had 25 % charge and I kept it for recharge last nite as I was travelling today all day. It refused to come on and I'm unable to detect/solve  the problem. Not even 7 months old , hardly used, has troubled me before also with a blue screen etc . The tablet is being experimented at our expense - this is not what DELL stood for in the past ................... praveen hasija ,india , Phone number removed per privacy policy> and  Email id removed per privacy policy>

I'm having the same issue, my unit is 5 weeks out of warranty and dell won't extend the warranty for what seems to be a common known issue.  my dell pro 8 won't take a charge and I do believe it has nothing to do with the charging port but some other underlying issue. I barely used this tablet over the course of a year and probably the eighth time I attempt to charge... nothing but an amber light for a few seconds when I press the power key. I've tried multiple charger to no avail.  I was warned not to buy dell but lesson learned.

I have had my Venue Pro 8 for over a year also and I go to use it today and it does exactly the same as yours. Nothing but an amber light for a few seconds when I press the power key, and no white charging indicator. I have barely used my tablet and it seems like there is some new problem every time! Please Dell, will you solve this problem?

Alternate chargers will work, they just need to be powerful enough/have a high enough amperage.  The Blackberry Playbook charger is a great charger for the DV8P and can be found for only around $5 or less at Amazon.com.

Wish I had an answer too. I have had mine 2 weeks and the charging light doesn't even come on. Seems like a frequent problem.

This might be a long shot, but I'm hoping it  might be the answer for some of you.

Once in blue moon mine won't start when I hold down the power button and it turns out to be that the tablet is actually in Sleep Mode.  Maybe I hit Sleep instead is Shut Down the last time I used it. Pressing the button on the side wakes it up, and then siding the display up has always been the cure.

I don't know what effect running down the battery while in Sleep mode would have.

Seems to be a bug that turns the screen off but not the tablet or puts it in some power saving/sleep mode or something to that affect.  Others have had success with holding the power button for 10 seconds and then pushing for another 10 seconds.  I had this work once.

The second time it went off no amount worked.  I took off the back and checked the power and the battery was charged.  There was power to the switch as well.  So i unplugged the battery, waited 30 seconds and plugged it back in and it worked.

My issue maybe somewhat different. I've had my Venue 8 Pro for about  years but only lately (last month or so) has it been acting up. Mine stays on just fine and starts normally. Only when it goes into sleep mode or when I hit the sleep/on-off button do I get the issue.

Whenever it goes dark, sleep mode, it will not come back on. When I hit the on-off button to wake it up, something odd happens. When it is sleep mode, the screen goes entirely black. When I hit the sleep/on-off button again, nothing appears to happen unless I hold the Venue at a sharp angle. THEN, as I toggle the sleep/on-off button, I can see the back lighting going on and off. I still cannot get it to come on, but I can see that the back lighting comes on, so the device is trying.

In order to get the device to come back on, I have to do a hard reboot as described above: hold the sleep/on-off button for 10 seconds and then hit it again for a shorter period. While this does start up the device, I lose any work I'd been doing since it is a full reboot.

I wonder if this is not the result of a Microsoft update. I had a similar issue with the camera not working. Once that update was removed, the camera worked again. I hope the solution to this issue is so simple.

Very dissapointed with Dell and their customer support- or more like LACK of it. Bought my wife this tablet about a year and a half ago, now it won't power on at all. Tried calling Dell and because it's been over 12 months they want $19 before they will even talk to me about it. That's garbage, I've been using a nook tablet for the last 5 years with no issues, now here is Dell, pedling garbage with their hand out for more $$$ to potentially tell me it's broken. I like the support forums, for folks not wanting to give these money grubbers more money we can ask other people who don't know how to fix this stuff questions about how to fix this stuff. Wonderfull!
