RED097: Unable to complete the firmware update operation because the specified firmware image is for a component that is not

"RED097: Unable to complete the firmware update operation because the specified firmware image is for a component that is not in the target system inventory or the component is disabled for performing the update"

I have several systems returning this error now with different updates and it is frustrating:

R540:

Components iSM LC DUP

Current 5.4.0.0

Available 5.4.2.0

All these updates are listed as Critical in Dell's OME (OpenManage Enterprise) and all fail to apply, both in OME as well as when directly uploaded to the iDRAC webUI. None of these servers run windows, so I can't simply run the DUPs on the host.

Hello,

For the R640 there are two different installs:

Dell EMC iDRAC Service Module for Windows, v4.2.0.0

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=56gjn&oscode=wst14&productcode=poweredge-r640

OM-iSM-Dell-Web-X64-4.2.0.0-2581_A00.exe

Installation:

Extract the contents to a folder.

Browse to iSM\windows folder and double click the iDRACSvcMod.msi.

Dell EMC iDRAC Service Module Installer for OS DUP, v4.2.0.0

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=kw3yn&oscode=wst14&productcode=poweredge-r640

Systems-Management_Application_KW3YN_WN64_4.2.0.0_A00.EXE

Installation:

Double click the downloaded Windows .EXE file and click the "Install" button.

Hello,

I'm sorry to see that. Let me gather some information and offer a process to try:

What is the server model?

How are you applying the update?

Do you have a link to the update you are using?

What version are you updating from and to?

Could you try this through the LifeCycle Controller?

Steps to Update Firmware via Lifecycle Controller

  1. Enter Lifecycle Controller
    • Power on or reboot the server.
    • Press F10 during POST to launch Lifecycle Controller.
  2. Configure Network Settings
    • Navigate to: Settings > Network Settings
    • Set a valid IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS.
    • Test connectivity using Test Network Connection.
  3. Launch Firmware Update
    • In the left pane, click Firmware Update.
    • In the right pane, click Launch Firmware Update.
  4. Select Update Repository
    • Dell Website (HTTPS):
      • Select Network Share > HTTPS
      • Enter:
      • Share Name/Address: downloads.dell.com
      • You can also try: dl.dell.com
      • File Path: catalog
  5. Scan and Select Updates
    • Lifecycle Controller will scan the repository.
    • Select desired updates from the list.
    • Click Apply.
  6. Review and Confirm
    • Lifecycle Controller will download, validate, and apply updates.
    • System may reboot automatically.

I have this problem and tried doing it manually on the host. Mine are windows too, in an offline enviroment.

About 40 servers, power edge r640 servers
