Automating Firmware update using bootable ISO (limitation)
firmwareI am trying to automate firmware update of Dell PowerEdge using bootable Firmware update bundle ISO.
I mount the ISO using virtual media and reboot the server. The server boots into firmware ISO and immediately starts firmware update progress. However after completion of firmware update it expects user to press key to reboot the server.
This approach is not helping when I try to automate firmware update using scripts without need for manual intervention.
Is there a way to make the server reboot after firmware update automatically?

Hello @avgovind,
The bootable Firmware update bundle ISO cannot be considered as a non-attended firmware update method. You will need to use a different method. For instance, I can suggest you RACADM commands on Windows or Linux or OpenManage Enterprise.
Bot of this alternatives will offer you this possibility.
If you have iDRAC 9, you can also schedule some updates on the iDRAC GUI. Please, check this article: https://dell.to/37VziBW
Hope this helps. Any more questions, please, don't hesitate to ask.
Regards.

Thank you Diego for the reply. I am trying to use Redfish to automate firmware updates. I will try iDRAC9 approach that you suggested and see if I can use Redfish to perform same steps that your article has.
In my opinion ISO based f.w update can reboot after waiting for set time period for user key press. But I understand that the user may want to see the result from the console.
Thanks again for suggesting alternatives.

Take a look to OME aka OpenManageEnterprise. When it comes to FW Upgrade you can compare it with MS WSUS.
