VMAX thin Storage pools

Hi

Can we create storagepool in symmetrix Vamx from using different type of physical disks. For Example One storage pool can have mixed disk types like FC,SATA all in the same storagepool.

Or Storage pool can contain only one disk type in one storage pool.

Thanks

VMAX thin pools can only be configured with one disk type. For each disk type that you want you need to create a new thin pool. That being said, if the specified VMAX is running Enginuity 5875, you can use features like VLUN Migration to move bound thin devices from one pool to another. Or you can use the rebinding feature, which doesnt move existing data but all new writes to that thin device will now go to which ever different pool is specified in the rebind operation. Lastly, you can use FAST VP to have the VMAX place allocation on which ever pool it deems necessary. For more information refer to the technote on Powerlink here:

Each storage tier requires at least one storage pool. FAST will move data around between storage pools for tiering purposes and within the same pools for performance.
