VMAX pool rebalancing

How does the VMAX (5875) determine what extents to move to the new tdats when rebalancing? Does it "shuffle" the extents on the existing tdats or just move the extents from the existing tdats to the new tdats?

The rebalance picks extents from the old TDATs at random and moves them to the new TDATs.

It works the same way as it works in 5874, I have not heard of any difference...

How does it work in 5874?

i think it restripes the data on the newly added tdats and the existing tdats so the pool can be expanded without compromising the wide striping but you may see a rebalance variance of 1% among the tdats after the rebalance process, which is normal.

So all extents are reshuffled on the new and existing tdats? In other words after a rebalance an existing tdat would likely have different extents than before the rebalance.
