scenario on my vmax
Hello all,
please suggest solution to my scenario.
here is my scenario on my vmax { thin devices}
1. i have a production lun mapped to a linux host with 100Gb which is curved by forming concatentaed meta ( it is a thin ) . now i have a request to increase this 100Gb to 175GB, since i formed concatentaed meta i know we can increase on-fly.
2. but my problem is my present 100GB lun formed from symmetrix thin devices have 19 snaps with one 1 clone where this clone is my R1 to the remote symmetrix for R2 in other site...
we know when source device is increased we need to increase all my snaps, R1 & R2 associated with that...
so how can i increase my snap devices, R1 & R2 devices...........
Do we need to terminate the relation between the snap devices & prduction devices by doing this are we losing all the snaps ...?
appreciate for your help guys....

make a clone copy if you are worried, terminate the session and expand. If something goes bad you can always perform full restore ( or rather clone it back)

cancel/terminate any TimeFinder sessions, delete SRDF pairings ..increase all components and recreate TimeFinder/SRDF relationships. Yes ..unfortunately that means full sync for every component and yes snaps are gone.

then i dont think so increasing my source lun is helping my customer since i am losing all my snaps & if some issue happens when increasing the lun there is no backup to re-store... am i correct ?

The moment you terminate the snap session, the snap goes to NR and pointers will be cleared.

HI,
You have mentioned its a concatenated thin meta. Expanding a concat wont hurt or cause data loss.

thanks dynamox,
making a new clone is my plan & if something goes bad we can use the newly created clone...
appreciate for all your suggestions.
Thanks
