Fibre FA on VMAX shows another wwn of another FA.

I am working on looking at hba logins on to VMAX FAs, I have configured zones on brocade with 1HBA and 2 FAs total 4 zones as follows.

zone1=hba1,7e0,7f0

zone2=hba2, 7e0, 7f0

zone3=hab3,7e0,7f0

on fabric_A, when i check for the hba that logged into FAs 7e0 and 7f0, 7f0 shows all the 3 hbas but 7e0 shows only 2 of 3 but shows the wwn of 7f0....how to see my 3rd hba on 7e0 ??

Thanks,

if you triple checked the zone and it looks good, next step i would reboot the system ( if it's not in production). If it's in production ..initiate some kind of scan (cfgmgr on AIX).

zone1=hba1:7e0

zone2=hba1:7f0

Am i correct ?

check your zoning ..make sure you did not zone one FA to the other FA ..instead of host to FA.

use single initiator/target zoning ..one HBA -> one FA, yes it's more zones but FAs will not login into each other.

Hey Dynamox,

I just created a separate zone for the missing HBA and 7e0 and activated it... still it doesn't show the HBA logged in to the 7e0 ??, how can i solve this problem...

If you have triple checked everything (as Dynomox) said then reset the Switch port through which your host is connected. If its HP UX host then you need to present a device in order to see the HBA as logged in.

Thanks,

don't reset ports if  that host is connected to 3rd party array at the moment( i believe SAN_AK was in the middle of host based migration). Not necessary to present anything to HPUX ..simple ioscan will force HBAs to login.

Did you use the world wide port name (WWPN) ? Sometimes (even I ) use the world wide node name (WWNN).

Is the HBA's wwpn actually logged in to the switch ? Is there actually traffic flowing from this HBA to/from this port ? I can imagine that there's still something wrong with the HBA, the switch port or the patch cable and that you're now in fact using only the other HBA to this 3rd party storage array.

Can you run a (Brocade) SAN Health to verify the HBA is logged in and there is traffic flowing through this HBA's port ?

Running SAN Health is nondisruptive.

I am just curious why he zoning all three HBA to same FA . As Dynamox mentioned, if it is just for migration that is ok.
