Donor Update option on OR session - DMX to Netapp

Hey All !

I need to migrate VM machines from Symmetrix to Netapp machine and i'm choosing the Open Replicator for the migration tool.

I familiar with the option that called "Donor Update" that saves me lots of downtime (by turning on VMs to production while copy session running in background).

But,  I used to do this option on Symmterix to Symmetrix migration.. now i need to do an Symmetrix to Netapp migration!

Can I bring VMs to online while doing OR copy session from Symmetrix to Netapp? or that feature only available if both arrays are EMC's ?

Thank you all!

Hello Sagi,

Donor update is only possible when you are pulling data onto a Symmetrix or in OR terms when you are doing a HOT PULL. If you wish to move data from Symm to Netapp, i believe you would have to go with a push operation which moves data off to the netapp, in which case you do not have the donor_update option available. Refer the migration CLI attached. Hope it helps.

Roshan Raju.

sagi,

Please consider moving this question to the proper forum for maximum visibility.  Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and questions can go unanswered for a long time.  You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the right.  Then search for and select: "Symmetrix Support Forum" which would be the most relevant for this question.

Hi sagi,

you can look at the support matrix of OR on https://elabnavigator.emc.com/ but the site looks in maintainance. I had copy of support matrix in attach. But Netapp arrays do not appear in the list. I'd like to suggest you check the matrix again when elab is back online. if Netapp arrays are supported by OR. I believe if OR supports the array, you can use Donor Update feature as normal. Because OR feature is controlled in Symmetrix side which does need any operations from third-party arrays.
