dmx3 vcm dev
Hi Floks ,
We have mapped the VCM dev to most of the FA's in DMX3 and now its visible on every server which get zoned with those FA's.
It get visible to server and in format output it displayed as "Unformatted Lun" .
the unix guys are aware that these are special purpose storage devices and should not be initialised.
My worry is if somebody mistakenly intialise the device then what will happen ?? it the VMC DB will get initialsed ??
Also it WR_Enabled dev may be in DMX3 onwards it VCM Gatekeeper .
Regards
Sandeep..

Hello OnlySandy,
Your discussion does not mention Symm microcode level. Knowledgebase Article emc16728 may apply. If it does open a call with the support centre, (or a chat) and the Symmetrix lab will resolve the issue.
The VCMDB should always be write protected from the host.
Hope this helps,
Nollaig

Hi,
If its above 5771 then you dont need to worry about someone initializing the VCM devices and corrupting the masking database coz it no longer keeps the masking data. All masking info is stored in SFS Volumes on Symm. I am not much of a UNIX guy but in Windows, i disable it from the device manager so that it does not show up and cause confusion. I believe something similar should be there in UNIX also.
Thanks,
Saurabh
