SupportAssist App Stopped Working
XPS 8940
Running Windows 11 Pro 22H2 Insider Beta Channel. Dell XPS 8940.
Out of the blue the SupportAssist app (v3.11.1) has stopped working. When I run the app the circle twiddles around for ages and eventually ends up with the message "This is taking longer than expected. We recommend restarting your PC and trying again." Restarting and trying again makes no difference, still hangs and then fails.
I downloaded the latest version and tried to install, same thing, same message.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I don't use it, but I often see posted reports here of it doing strange things like that.
I think your issue might be more quickly resolved by posting here:

Thanks, much appreciated.
I ended up completely uninstalling the app and re-installing. Seems to be working okay again now. For how long... who knows.

@Ozbloke I'd had the same problem. The culprit is Win 11 - 22H2 insider's edition. Not the official release one. So my fix was to roll back to last working W11 - 22H1. I'm downloading the official release 22H2 and will try to install in a bit later. Crossing my fingers since the headache I had with the insider's edition before.

Good luck,

Just to update all.
I just completed installing the Win 11 - 22H2 Official release. After shutting down and rebooting many times for testing purposes, I can safely say that this official release is stable to handle both Dell Support Assist v3.11.429 and Dell Command Update Universal Windows App v4.4.0. In short, both app works without quirks and fully functional.
If, after you roll back your Windows 11 (to 21H2) and encounter a different problem, i.e. Support Assist asked for an update (else it won't run) -- and then after you went ahead to update SA, it stopped working (again) ...
I managed to fix the problem by side loading the installation of SA. Refer to this post > https://www.dell.com/community/SupportAssist-for-PCs/Dell-Support-Assist-and-Dell-Update-failed-Inspiron-3881-desktop/td-p/8226031
Hope that helps.

LK
