SupportAssist 4.0.3. - System optimization failure

Inspiron 13 5378 2-in-1

Inspiron 13 5378 2-in-1

SA (SupportAssist) 4.0.3. for Home PCs:

- fails to run any of the suite of checks and optimizations

- same result when running in a browser

There are posts from June 2024 indicating this issue, that engineering known about this and expect it to be fixed in the next version.

We're 4 months on now and still no sign of an updated version of SA and fix for this issue.  Tried to upload an image (jpg and png < 10 MB as per instructions) but this failed as well!

Anyone have any better insight or solution?

Thanks

Hi Nobbler:

Employee DELL-Chris M's advised in their 10-Jun-2024 topic SupportAssist, "Hardware scan fails", "We ran into a problem" that users having issues with SupportAssist v4.0.3 should uninstall SupportAssist and wait for a new SupportAssist release that (hopefully) includes some bug fixes.  I am not sure why that topic wasn't pinned at the top of this SupportAssist for PCs board.

In the mean time you should be able to install and run the Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.4.0 app (Dell-Update-Windows-Universal-Application_HG1TN_WIN_5.4.0_A00.EXE, rel. 31-Jul-2024) currently listed on your Inspiron 13 5378 2-in-1 support page at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/inspiron-13-5378-2-in-1-laptop/drivers.  After SupportAssist is uninstalled download this installer and save it to your desktop and then right-click and choose "Run as Administrator".

The Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.x app does not automatically load at Windows startup and run in the background like SupportAssist and it has fewer features than SupportAssist (e.g., it cannot optimize your system or run hardware diagnostics), but it will check for available Dell software and hardware driver updates that match your unique Service tag.

I no longer have SupportAssist installed on my Inspiron 5584 (I found it was too buggy and consumed too much CPU and RAM) so I use Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.x to check for available Dell software and drivers updates, and if I need to run a hardware diagnostic I run a F12 ePSA (enhanced Pre-boot System Assessment) scan from my Dell BIOS.  Sadly, Dell will be discontinuing support for Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.x in a few months - see my 09-May-2024 topic Support for Dell Update / Alienware Update Ending December 2024.

Dell is aware of this issue. See employee Dell-Brad L's 16-Oct-2024 comment in the bug report Unable to Insert Images in Replies.
