Support assist os recovery hangs at the install point

I have been trying to let the support assist recovery to install for the last two days.   I  click install and the whole support assist window goes grey and says it is validating but it never goes any further.  I am not sure what to do  ugh

@Liam68

Have you tried rebooting your computer, and then disabling your anti-virus/anti-malware application(s)?

It/They sometimes interfere with installing updates and components.

I hope this helps.  Have a great day.

Regards,
-Phil

We had a similar case just come into our L3 Escalation queue.  I created a defect with the drivers team to investigate.

@Liam68 this issue has been fixed on the latest SupportAssist version 3.6. Can you please upgrade to the latest version of SupportAssist 3.6 and retry the driver scan?

I am already running the latest version.

The issue has been fixed? I don't think so. After 2 days of use, on my very first use of SupportAssist, using this version 3.6, SA hung itself.

I was shown 7 updates to install. I selected the smallest 4. Worked okay on the first three, then hung on the fourth. After 45 minutes, still installing. So I clicked on Cancel. It then showed "Cancelling" on all 4 even though the first 3 had already installed, supposedly. Then it hung on "Cancelling". Seriously?

No choice, I x'ed out of SA. And then came here. And I see all these threads going back years of people posting problems with SA hanging, just not functioning. I read instructions to uninstall SA, delete various folders, then reinstall SA.

Why would I reinstall something that plainly doesn't work? Wouldn't work the first time I used it? And has been causing problems for years?

Same here. I have version 3.7. Hangs at a full "installing" bar and never completes. I lose patience, close, reopen then retry install and it instantly says "failed". Restart the computer, reopen SA, try again, get exact same rigmarole  .... I'm through wasting my time with this garbage.

It's not the first time, tried to install nvidia driver update with it once, always failed to install after wasting loads of my time. Had to use nvidia official site to install the driver update (which installed flawlessly in less than 2 minutes btw).

Very very poor tool the SA is. I won't be using again ....

So my computer screen got a bit broken, but only about a centimetre squared. I don't think this has affected the software/hardware, but about two days after it happened, (note: the two days before it happened, the computer was completely functional) It comes up with a white screen saying stuff about a "SupportAssist | Pre-boot System performance Check. and on the same screen in the middle, it also shows my computer model, some stuff listing System BIOS, Service tag, Version, and Touch. Below that, it shows a "system scan in progress" , with a bar underneath. once the bar is finished loading, i hit continue because i think my computer might need a restart. next up, it shows a blue screen with a green bar. this green bar has been stuck at about 20% for the past half hour. can anyone help?
