Support Assist deletes Solitaire scores
I run spidersolitaire.exe, version 6.1.7600.16385, copyright=Microsoft, on my Windows 10 PC. When I run Dell Support Assist, my scores, preferences, and any other data disappear. Why does this do this and is there a way to prevent it other than not using Support Assist?
Thanks.

Hi 48301:
I read about a similar issue in IkeinMD's 19-Mar-2022 CCleaner forum thread CCleaner Wipes Out Wordle History Scores where their Wordle scores were wiped each time the CCleaner utility cleaned their browser history and deleted a nytimes.com cookie. According to an old answer in mikeg300's thread Where are the Solitaire Statistics? in the Microsoft Answers forum scores for their solitaire games are stored various subfolders in the hidden C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft Games\ folder, but I'm not sure if that's also the case with your Spider Solitaire.
The "Optimizing Your PC" section of the Dell manual at SupportAssist for Business PCs with Windows OS Frequently Asked Questions (revised Nov 2021) states that the Clean Files scan deletes temporary files and logs as well as browser data so I suspect this is the SupportAssist scan that is deleting your solitaire scores. From that manual:
I recently received a private message from a Dell employee who told me that the Clean Files scan of SupportAssist does not delete cookies when it cleans your browser data (see my 24-Mar-2022 post in Yeffers' How to Stop Support Assistant Clean Files From Deleting Cookies?) but that seems to contradict what some SupportAssist users are reporting in this forum.
Another possibility is that your solitaire scores are saved in the Windows registry and are being wiped by the Tune Performance scan of SupportAssist when it cleans the registry. See Greg100's 06-Nov-2021 Support Assist Deletes Registry Entries for PMDG Flight Simulator Addon for more information.
Regardless, I'd recommend you DISABLE all background system optimization scans by SupportAssist at Options (gear icon) | Settings | Automate Scans and Optimizations At: as shown below (note that the automatic "Check PC's Performance" scan includes the Clean Files, Tune Performance and Optimize Network scans) and only run manual Get Drivers & Downloads and Scan Hardware scans from the Home tab of SupportAssist. Then let us know if this prevents your solitaire scores from being deleted.
Note that I currently have SupportAssist v3.10.4 disabled on my laptop and I am using the Dell Update utility or the blue "Check for Updates" button <here> on the support page for my Inspiron 5584 to check for available Dell software and driver updates.

Thanks for your very comprehensive and helpful reply. I'll follow your suggestion about sticking to manual driver updates and hardware scans.
