BSOD - Random Reboots - May 2026 Dell Updates - Dell Support assist probable cause.

I updated my Dell Software - Bios, dock etc. From that moment laptop kept randomly rebooting (around every 30 minutes).

I Removed/Uninstalled all Dell Support assist software and remediation and it seems to be stable, looks like the cause is “Dell SupportAssist Remediation” service .

Hi All,

Thank you for your patience. For customers experiencing system errors related to the SupportAssist Remediation Service 5.5.16.0 update, here is the Knowledge Base article with instructions to update your system. If you have questions, please contact Dell GHN (Get Help Now) chat technical support Monday through Friday. Click the blue "Get Help Now" on the right to start a private live chat session. Share the private Service Tag with them so that they can verify the ownership and warranty status. This will also generate a unique Technical Support case for your unique Service Tag.

As many have noted, version 5.5.16.0 of the Dell SupportAssist Remediation service or Alienware SupportAssist Remediation service can cause the BSODs. This service operates independently of the primary Dell SupportAssist application. The best current workaround is to the uninstall Dell SupportAssist Remediation service 5.5.16.0 as per the above article.

To uninstall Dell SupportAssist Remediation version 5.5.16.0:

  1. Open Windows Settings and go to Apps, then Installed apps.
  2. Locate Dell SupportAssist Remediation version 5.5.16.0 or Alienware SupportAssist Remediation version 5.5.16.0 in the list.
  3. Select the application and then click Uninstall.
  4. Note that any system repair points created by Dell OS SupportAssist Recovery may not be available after uninstalling the Remediation Service
  5. If you keep the SupportAssist app or Dell Command Update, they will both scan and download the stable version of Dell SupportAssist Remediation. It will then automatically resume creating system repair points after installation.

If uninstalling Dell SupportAssist Remediation or Alienware SupportAssist Remediation version 5.5.16.0 does not resolve the issue, follow the standard blue screen troubleshooting at How to Troubleshoot Black Screen Errors, Blue Screen Errors, or Stop Code Errors on a Dell Computer.

Note: This issue has been resolved with a new release of SupportAssist. Please update to SupportAssist 5.1.1.

A client just reported the same problem on a Dell Pro 14 Plus PB14250.  My laptop is a Dell Pro 16 Plus PB16250. I removed Support Assist and will check back to see if that fixed his problem.  My system has run all day without a BSOD.
Seems like there is an issue with this new, fancy, AI enabled or whatever else they toss into it, laptop model.  I guess I'll tackle this will Dell when I have the energy to deal with their AI Chat.

All our Dell Pro Plus have been affected. You can also stop the Dell Support assist services and disable starting automatically. I found it was the “Dell SupportAssist Remediation” service

Looks like this same issue also occurred 10 months ago.

@catsneck Go to either Control Panel Programs and Features, or Settings / Apps, Installed Apps and uninstall anything labeled Dell Support Assist.  Apparently it is just the Dell SupportAssist Remediation app that needs to be installed, but I removed all of them until I get a notice from Dell that the problem is resolved.

Hi All,

The link the OP posted to the other thread should indeed be related to each other. Dell is aware of the issue and it is currently under investigation. For users in warranty, contact Dell GHN (Get Help Now) chat technical support Monday through Friday. Click the blue "Get Help Now" on the right to start a private live chat session. Share the private Service Tag with them so that they can verify the ownership and warranty status. This will also generate a unique Technical Support case for your unique Service Tag. If already out of warranty, we'll share any updates we may receive as we get them.

As a workaround, many users report success with disabling the Dell SupportAssist Remediation service.

I opened a service request on this issue so that I will hopefully be notified when it is resolved.  We have about 2 dozen of the new generation laptops of which 2 have reported the problem.  Most likely these users have not updated their Dell drivers and software.

I had the same issue on a Desktop Dell Pro Max Tower T2. I was getting random reboots every 30 minutes, and the fan was running pretty loud. I unistalled the Support Assist and no issues since.

We manage fleets of hundreds of Dell PCs effected by this, mostly PB14250 and PB16250 reporting so far. Our team is deploying scripts to remove Dell SupportAssist, Dell SupportAssist Remediation, Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update, and Dell Optimizer from all Dell PCs. Found excellent scripts from a Dell employee here:

@louismccut Well, the irony is that this problem occurs right after updating all Dell drivers and software. It is actually better *not* to update it turns out.

After uninstalling dell support assist was a reboot required before the system was stable?

@Mistadobalina Not sure if required but I did one anyway just to make sure any remnants of SupportAssist were removed.
