trouble cleaning up messed up host in ECC

ok so there was a solaris host(server1e) in ECC, but the interface ips were changed without stopping the agents first so now the

server1e is in a weird state in which the master agent is inactive but the host agent is still active, at least according to ECC and I can't stop the agent with the master being inactive

when I started the master agent again on server1e, ECC brought it in as server1e(1), it has all the correct interface ips and everything I was able to install the host agent.

question is how do I remove the old one?

Kill the ECC processes runnng on the host. Make sure the host isnt cloned. Lookup the com files and verify host names are correct. If incorrect delete and restart agents.
/var/ecc/ -->> com and lck files

We occasionally run into something similar in our environment and the only thing I have been able to do was shut down everything on the host (Master & Host agent), then uninstall the Master Agent (which will take the host agent with it). Then once the console recognizes the agents down delete both of the host objects (if you are CLARiiON attached you have to delete the HBAs for the host first or you still can't delete the host object).

At this point you can reinstall the Master Agent, deploy any patches to it and then push the Host agent install.

If you don't uninstall the agents from the host before deleting the objects, when it comes back up it will only know about the Master Agent until you install a new host agent, and that one sometimes comes up as Host(1) indicating that it sort of did know about the host agent but just refused to use it.

If anyone has a better way around this I would love to hear it, because this is a real pain to fix.

the problem is shutting down the host agent
on the solaris host there is a script to shutdown the masteragent but that seems to have no affect on the host agent

I have had this happen several times as well

What i have had to do is to uninstall the host agent on the host that shows up correctly, stop the master agent on the same host and then delete both hosts in ECC. After that you should be able to restart the master agent and install the host agent.
